The Pembina Trails School Division in Manitoba, Canada has reportedly replaced its existing telephony system with Objectworld Unified Communications Server.

Objectworld’s server will be scaled to deliver communications services and applications including VoIP, Unified Messaging, Unified Communications and Interactive Voice Response to the 1,800 users in 34 separate locations across the school division.

Located in the provincial capital of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Pembina Trails has an enrollment of approximately 14,000 students. The school division was searching for a solution to replace the existing systems that could leverage its new network infrastructure to supply unified communications.

According to Don Reece, director of information technology at Pembina Trails School Division, they were searching for a vendor who had experience and expertise in the area of unified messaging, understood Microsoft (News - Alert) Active Directory structures and knew how large organizations manage data.

In addition to these requirements they wanted an easy to use, cost-effective solution and to write a business case that showed both short- and long-term savings coupled with extensive functionality gains.

Reece said that UC Server allowed them to leverage existing Dell (News - Alert) hardware and Microsoft Active Directory software to accommodate existing phone and messaging needs, and encourage the creation of a unified messaging vision for the future.

“The challenges and opportunities in terms of communications that face today’s educational institutions are tremendous. UC Server provides employees with the tools they need to effectively communicate with one another, as well as with parents and students,” said Steve Grassie, vice president of business development and marketing at Objectworld in a press release.

He continued: “Helping Pembina Trails simplify the administrative requirements using Microsoft Active Directory and helping them cut their communications costs using VoIP is what this install is really about for us.”

Objectworld Communications Corp. provides IT Telephony, VoIP phone system software for the Microsoft Windows platform. Its UC Server enables customers to take control of their phone systems with simple but powerful administration and productivity tools, including seamless, real-time integration with Active Directory and a point-and-click service creation environment.

Created through the amalgamation of two existing school divisions, Pembina Trails School Division consists of 14,000 students in 34 distinct locations across south Winnipeg, Manitoba.
