VoIP Provider 8x8 Names New VP of Service Delivery and Support

By Johanne Torres
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Voice and Video over IP provider 8x8 (News - Alert) announced that it has promoted Mehdi Salour to the position of vice president of Service Delivery and Support. Prior to this promotion, the executive had been serving as the company's director of Customer Care.

According to 8x8, via his post of director of Customer Care, Salour has been developing the CRM strategy used while 8x8 was "transitioning from an OEM technology company to a customer-centric service provider." Prior to this, he has served as 8x8's IT network engineer, network operations engineer, manager of technical support and director of technical support.

In his new position, Salour will be responsible for the entire customer experience from the service delivery and production network operations to customer support for the Packet8 residential voice and video services, as well as the Packet8 Virtual Office service. The executive will also oversee 8x8's Packet8 Network Operations Center (NOC) in Santa Clara, California, which monitors the company's voice and video networks.

“Mr. Salour’s technical and customer service accomplishments at 8x8 over the past seven years have greatly contributed to the ongoing growth and success of the Packet8 residential and business service offering,” commented 8x8 chairman and CEO Bryan Martin in a statement. “His dedication, attention to detail and unfailing concern for our customers embodies the Packet8 service philosophy we all strive to achieve at 8x8. We are very pleased and proud to promote him to this important position.”

8x8 made news just last month when it introduced the Packet8 Tango Video Terminal Adapter (VTA), a broadband phone adapter with a built-in LCD screen. The new VTA is basically an ATA, with added H.264 video, which allows for a better video quality, when compared to H.263, at the same bandwidth, according to 8x8. The new device features SIP-compliance and it interoperates with 8x8’s Packet8 DV326 videophone, as well as the Packet8 Softalk video softphone. The device measures 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” x 1.38”, and it incorporates a built-in, high resolution 5” LCD color display and 180 degree rotating CCD camera, which delivers full-motion video at up to 30 frames per second.
